Public roadmap

What we're building next

No vaporware, no "Q-coming-soon" forever. Each item below has a real status, a rough effort estimate, and a line about why it matters. We update this every two weeks.

Phase 1 · Q1 2026 · "platform polish"

Done

Make BookReady feel like a real product, not a side project. Plug holes in stages we already lead, ship the small wins, and lay groundwork for everything else. All Q1 items shipped on time.

Cover builder — Fabric.js rebuild
Vanilla canvas replaced with Fabric.js 5.3. Drag, resize, rotate, multi-select all work. Closes the gap with CoverJig. Biggest single feature in Q1.

Canva auto-detect in cover checker
Reads PDF metadata for the Canva fingerprint (Skia/PDF). Surfaces a Canva-specific fix instead of generic "increase DPI" — Canva's #1 IngramSpark rejection cause.
Shipped
GA4 server-side purchase events
Stripe webhook fires the GA4 purchase event directly. Bypasses ad-blockers and works even when the success page never loads. Was reporting $0; now reports actual revenue.

Cover compliance report → HTML
Was a 1990s-looking ReportLab PDF; now matches the manuscript report style with linked check IDs and per-page detail.

Phase 2 · Q2 2026 · "marketing-stage capture"

Nearly done

Stop losing authors after they hit publish. Capture the email-list and discovery side of the journey. 9 of 11 items shipped — only Mintlify docs and ConvertKit/MailerLite OAuth push remain.

Shipped
Universal book link
One URL → all retailers (Books2Read clone). Pro users get unlimited links at bookready.net/u/<slug>. Click tracking + retailer-button page included.

Welcome drip — orchestrated & firing
3-email Postmark drip with redesigned action-card layout + founder signature. Render cron fires /cron/run-drips every 5 min, deduped per-subscriber, idempotent on retries. Schedule: day 1, day 4, day 9 after signup.
3 days
Shipped
Cart-abandonment recovery
Free scan with failures → email captured → recovery email 1 hour later with a magic-link back to the report. /cron/run-scan-recovery + dedupe ledger so a re-run never double-emails.

Conversion lever bundle
Trust strip in hero (no signup · files deleted 24h · money-back), money-back guarantee badge on pricing, sample report at /sample-report, live files-fixed counter on landing.

Branded transactional email shell
Every inline email (confirmation, recovery, owner-notify, formatter welcome) now uses the same navy header + gold accent bar + sand background — matches the Postmark templates.

SEO landing batch
Per-intent pages for the highest-traffic panic queries — KDP rejected my PDF, Atticus → Ingram, Ingram cover rejected. Each with FAQ schema for ChatGPT/Google snippets.

Durable revenue + paid-scan counter
Lifetime revenue and paid-file count now survive the 24h disk purge AND deploys. Counts both the live Stripe webhook AND a one-time backfill script for historical sales. Idempotent on session id so retries can't inflate.

Scanner / fake-iPhone bot defenses
CIDR-aware block list (caught a 500-req-in-4-min scanner sweep across 185.177.72.0/24). Tightened the real-visitors analytics filter so CN-cloud fake-iPhone scrapers don't inflate the count.

app.py blueprint split — round 1
29 static-page routes extracted into routes/static_pages.py. app.py dropped 151 lines. Adding a new SEO page is now a one-line tuple, not a copy-paste route. URL map proven byte-identical before/after.

Next up
ConvertKit / MailerLite OAuth push
Forward captured emails to the author's external list provider so the drip + subsequent broadcasts can go out from their brand, not ours. Pure feature, not a fix.

Things we won't build (and what to use instead)

We're trying to be a one-stop shop, not the only shop. These are the features we've explicitly cut — usually because someone else does them better and partnership beats competition. See /integrations for the full list.

AI book description writer
Was a Phase 2 "Next up" item. After honest evaluation: a generic LLM blurb generator wouldn't beat ChatGPT/Claude at the same prompt — we'd be selling a workflow shortcut, not better AI. Skipping until we have a real edge (e.g. genre-tuned fine-tunes from real best-seller data).
→ Use Claude/ChatGPT directly
Manuscript editor (Atticus competitor)
5-year head start. Atticus has 50k+ paying users. We integrate via .docx import instead.
→ Use Atticus
Audiobook production / narrator hire
Findaway and ACX own this. We add file-compliance checks (Q3) but won't run a marketplace.
→ Use Findaway Voices
Amazon ad management
AMS Tracker + agency services own this. We surface metadata that helps you write better ad copy.
→ Use AMS Tracker
Direct e-commerce (signed copies)
Payhip + Bookvault solve this in a week of setup. We'd need a year.
→ Use Payhip + Bookvault
Editing services (developmental, copy)
Reedsy has the vetted editor pool. We refer you with affiliate revenue.
→ Use Reedsy
Mobile native app (iOS/Android)
PWA covers 90% of mobile use cases. Native is a separate codebase + App Store fees + maintenance hell.
→ Install PWA
Translation services
Babelcube and Tektime are royalty-share marketplaces with vetted translators. Better than building a clone.
→ Use Babelcube
Tax / LLC / accounting help
Wave/Bench + a real CPA. We're not lawyers; you don't want code to be your tax advice.
→ Use Wave + a CPA
